Head Ice Technician (HIT) Course (2 Day) - FOR CURLING AB MEMBERS (discounted rate, which also includes evaluation fee)
The Head Curling Ice Technician course is a two-day workshop suitable for individuals who are looking for a career in ice making and need to learn the skills of installing, maintaining and removing ice in a dedicated curling facility for league and bonspiel play. These individuals may need to supervise Assistant Ice Technicians as well. At the completion of the workshop, students are given Head Ice Technician (HIT) - TRAINED status.
Location: Red Deer Curling Centre, Red Deer, AB
Date & Time: Monday, June 15th & Tuesday, June 16th, 2026 (8:30am to 5:00pm)
Maximum Participants in Course: 16
Deadline to register: Monday, June 1st, 2026
Bring: clean, grippy shoes, warm clothing, notebook, pencils, water bottle, snacks
Lunch: Lunch is on your own.
Curling AB will provide course materials.
PRE-REQUISITE (at least one of the following):
Assistant Ice Technician (AIT) course completion - Trained status
World Curling Federation – Introduction to Ice Maintenance (Online)
12 Months working at a Curling facility under the supervision of a Certified Head Ice Technician.
Former Curling Canada Level 1 Ice Technician Course
Former Facility Operator Assistant Course (Ontario)
Participants of the Head Ice Technician Program can expect to learn about:

Pebbling & Scraping
Paint/logo techniques
Stone maintenance

WITHDRAWALS & REFUND POLICY:
If Curling Alberta Cancels or Reschedules: In the event Curling Alberta cancels or reschedules a course for any reason, registered participants may choose to receive a full refund or apply their registration fee toward a future course.
If a Participant Cancels:
7 Days or More Prior to the Course Date: A refund will be issued and may be subject to an administrative fee of up to 20% of the total registration fee, at Curling Alberta’s discretion.
Less Than 7 Days Prior to the Course Date: No refund will be provided unless otherwise approved by Curling Alberta.
